WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE AIR ELITE 115 AND RACE VISION FPV Pro 220?

  • Air Elite 115 (item #22601) is a line of sight racing drone. It is a great way for beginners to learn the basics of flying. Race Vision FPV Pro 220 (item # 22608) is an Elite FPV (First Person View) racing drone. You can fly it line of sight, but it also allows you to fly in FPV using a camera on the front of the drone that sends real-time video transmission to the LCD screen. We recommend always learning to fly the basics by line of sight before graduation to FPV.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE AIR ELITE 115 AND AIR ELITE RACE SET?

  • The difference between the Air Elite 115 (item #22601) and the Air Elite Race Set (item #22625) is that the Air Elite Race set comes with a modular gate system and accessories to create custom race tracks and compete with friends.

I NEVER FLOWN A DRONE BEFORE, WHERE SHOULD I START?

  • Go to www.NikkoAir.com/products to review the Nikko Air range, and do research on what kind of drone you are looking for. For line of sight racing drones our Air Elite 115 or Air Elite Racing Set would be perfect. For FPV (first person view) racing, the Race Vision FPV Pro 220 is a great option.
  • All Nikko Air Drones come with access to The Drone Racing League’s online simulator, where you can use the Nikko Air controller to race and learn online, before flying your drone. There are many courses, tips and tricks in the simulator tool that will help any level drone pilot gain experience.

WHERE CAN I FIND CLUBS TO COMPETE IN DRONE RACING

  • Not currently, but keep checking back here for more information.

HOW DO I PAIR THE DRONE TO THE CONTROLLER?

  • Turn on the drone. The rear light will flash rapidly. Place the drone on a flat and smooth surface.
  • Turn on the remote. The lights of the drone will flash slowly indicating the that the drone and remote are now paired.
  • Push the throttle stick upward and downward. The lights of the drone will turn solid indicating the drone is armed and ready to fly.
  • Gently push the throttle stick upward to take-off.
  • To Note:
    1. If you don’t fly within 5 seconds of arming the drone or if you collide with an object the drone will disarm.
    2. You need to arm the drone following step 2.
    3. If the pairing is not successful or if another remote needs to be paired, keep the drone on for one minute before turning on the remote.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT THE FRONT AND BACK OF THE DRONE ARE?

  • An easy way to tell the front from the back of your drone is to look for the LED lights, these are on the back of the drones. The Race Vision FPV Pro 220 has the camera at the front of drone.

MEASURED DIAGONALLY, HOW LONG IS THE 115? 220?

  • The Air Elite 115 is 115 mm or 4.52 inches
  • The Race Vision FPV 220 Pro is 220 mm or 8.66 inches

HOW DO I KNOW IF THE BATTERY IS LOW?

  • The LED lights on the drone will start blinking and the controller will start vibrating. The drone will automatically land after a few seconds of this.

WHAT IS THE MAX SPEED FOR 115? 220?

  • The Air Elite 115 and Air Elite 115 Race Set Drones can travel up to 20 MPH+ and the Race Vision FPV Pro 220 can travel up to 25 MPH+.

WILL THE DRONE AUTOMATICALLY LAND IF BATTERY IS DEAD?

  • Yes, the controller will vibrate for a few seconds, and the drone will automatically land after this happens, as a safety feature.

WHAT IS THE MAX FLIGHT TIME FOR 115? 220?

  • The max flight time for both the Air Elite 115 and Race Vision FPV Pro 220 is about 6 minutes.

I'VE MASTERED BASIC FLYING, WHAT ARE SOME TIPS AND IDEAS FOR MORE ADVANCED FLYING?

WHEN SHOULD I ADJUST THE SENSITIVITY LEVEL ON MY DRONE?

  • The sensitivity level on your drone can be adjust once you’ve mastered flying your drone at the beginner (Nikko) level. Increasing the sensitivity level increases the speed of the drone and it’s ability to make faster turns.

DO I NEED TO REGISTER MY DRONE WITH THE FAA?

  • All Nikko Air Drones weigh under 250g (0.55 lbs) and are not required to be registered with the FAA. For more information and tips for safe operation, please visit the FAA and you can visit https://www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/ for more information.

CAN I FLY TWO DRONES AT A TIME? WILL THEY INTERFERE WITH EACH OTHER?

  • 115: you can fly multiple drones (up to 10) at the same time, the frequency is
  • 220: if you fly FPV you can only fly up to 4 people (see below) if you fly line of sight you can fly up to 10

IS THE BATTERY RECHARGEABLE?

  • Yes, the battery is rechargeable. It will take approx. 60 mins to fully recharge.

CAN I FLY THE DRONE INDOORS? CAN I FLY THE DRONE OUTDOORS?

  • The Air Elite 115 and Air Elite Race Set can be flown both indoors and outside. The Race Vision FPV Pro 200 is recommended for outdoor use only.
  • When flying outdoors, we recommend always checking the area for safety persuasions, powerlines & trees, and being mindful of the weather (wind gusts) when flying outside.

WHEN DO I ADJUST THE TRIM? / HOW TO ADJUST THE TRIM?

  • NOTE: ALWAYS ATTEMPT TO CALIBRATE PRIOR TO ADJUSTING THE TRIM. ALSO CHECK ALL PROPELLERS FOR DAMAGE, WHICH CAN CAUSE DRIFTING.
  • After attempting to calibrate your drone, if you are still experiencing issues, you can adjust the trim. You should adjust the trim when you see abnormal drifting, abnormal drifting can be classified if the drone drifts more than 3 feet in 3 seconds.
    1. Place drone on the ground. Bring the throttle stick (left stick) to lowest position, press A to start trim mode.
    2. Quickly push the right stick in the opposite direction from the drift direction and let it set back to the center.
    3. Push A again to exit trim mode.
    4. Do a test flight. If the drone still drifts, repeat steps 1 to 3. NOTE: Adjust trim when the drone is landed not while flying. To reset the trim, perform steps of calibration explained above

HOW DO I PLAY THE SIMULATOR WITH MY NIKKO AIR DRONE?

  • The DRL racing simulator allows new pilots to learn how to fly a racing drone. Practice the controls and perfect the basics before taking flight in real life. Master your skills and race against your friends. Compete in actual DRL courses. Learn more about the simulator at: http://www.nikkoair.com/train-like-a-pro/.
  • To download the DRL simulator, you need to first install STEAM onto your computer, go to http://store.steampowered.com/about/.
    Once installed:
    1. Launch the Steam client software and log into your Steam account.
    2. Click the Games Menu.
    3. Choose to Activate a Product on Steam (this has a small + icon in the bottom left hand of the menu).
    4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.
  • SYNC CONTROLLER TO SIMULATOR:
    1. Turn on the power of the drone and the controller.
    2. Push “B” for 5 seconds until the rear lights of the drone turn green and fade on and off
    3. Using the USB charging cord, plug the USB into the computer and insert the charging port to the drone.
    4. Follow the instructions in the simulator to finish setup.
    5. To switch back to flying mode push “B” for 5 seconds until the rear lights of drone are blinking.

HOW DO I UPDATE THE FIRMWARE?

  • There is no firmware update as of now, if anything becomes available we will share this information here.

WHAT FLIGHT MODE SHOULD I USE WHEN STARTING OUT?

  • Nikko mode and advanced mode are good for beginners to start off with. We suggest that you test both modes and see what you like best.
  • Nikko mode makes it easier to keep the front of the drone facing forward when taking off. It also allows you to control the direction with only one stick on the controller, rather than using both.

CAN I CHANGE THE COLOR OF THE LED?

  • You are unable to change the LED light on the 115 Air Elite Drone.

DOES THE 115 HAVE A CAMERA OR CAN I ATTACH ONE?

  • The 115 does not have a camera, and no you cannot attach one

HOW DO I CALIBRATE THE 115?

  • While flying, the drone will tend to drift sideways. This is normal and cannot be completely eliminated. However, if your drone shows too much drift, please follow the procedure for calibration and reset:
    1. Place the drone on a flat and level surface. Turn the drone on. Bring both control sticks toward the center of the remote, in the low position.
    2. The drone rear lights will flash 3 times indication that the drone has been calibrated and the trim has been reset.
    3. NOTE:
      1. If the drone still drifts abnormally, try to replace any damaged propeller.
      2. If the drone still drifts with new propeller, you can trim it.

HOW DO I REPLACE THE PROPELLERS ON MY DRONE?

  • Make sure to use the correct replacement propeller, A or B. Markings are located on the underside of propeller.
    1. Remove battery from drone.
    2. Remove the small screw using Phillips Head screwdriver.
    3. Replace damaged propeller with a new propeller with matching letter. Secure the propeller and tighten screw.

  • 220: Nikko mode is easier for FPV flying for beginners
  • Nikko mode allows you to control the direction with only one stick, rather than 2

CAN YOU WATCH VIDEO LIVE WHILE IT IS FLYING?

  • The Race Vision FPV Pro 200 has a camera and LCD screen so that you are able to watch live video while flying and racing. This video feed from the drone to the LCD screen is transmitted via 5.8 GHz, which allows for real time video streaming, unlike many other drones in the marketplace.

HOW DO YOU ADJUST THE CAMERA?

  • The camera can be tilted upwards or downwards, the more upwards you go is better for faster flying, the lower angle is better for slower flying, adjust for your needs
  • Image can be adjusted in the receiver, but not the camera itself. On the screen you can adjust color contrast, brightness, saturation

IS THE CAMERA REMOVABLE?

  • No the camera is not removable.

CAN I CHANGE THE COLOR OF THE LED?

  • The Race Vision FPV Pro 220 LED lights change automatically when the video frequency is changed, depending on the channel. This allows for multiple drones to race with individual colors.

THE VIDEO ON THE SCREENS SHOWS INTERFERENCE, NOISE OR OTHER ARTIFACTS

  • Try to avoid trying too far away from yourself, be careful of noisy environments, wifi / other transmitting areas
  • If you are flying next to someone, don’t fly on the same channel

WHAT KIND OF MEMORY CARD CAN I USE WITH THE RACE VISION FPV PRO 220?

  • The Race Vision FPV Pro 220 uses an SD card for memory storage.

CAN I USE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES FOR THE REMOTE OR THE LCD SCREEN?

  • You can absolutely use rechargeable batteries for the controller and the LCD screen. If you do decide to use rechargeable batteries for the LCD screen, you will need to manually change the type of battery in the settings of the screen. Ensure that your battery type and voltage are correct or else it will show that the battery is empty. Rechargeable batteries are 1.2 volts and regular batteries are 1.5 volts.

CAN I USE THE 220 WITH MY PHONE?

  • The 220 is not compatible with your phone. The drone comes with a 4.3” LCD FPV screen to view the live feed on, that can be attached to the controller or the goggles for fully immersive FPV viewing.
